If your friend is truly the owner of an original record player and 1500
records, also known as LP's ( long playing - album) then he should
seriously consult a reputable expert, and have his fortune valued before
doing anything....a new stylus would be an improvement to the sound
quality but there was always a level of crackling with record playing, as
the wear and tear of the records also produces crackles, which will still
be there, with or without new needle/stylus. Also dust interference is
a consideration - if your friend is not at all interested in valuing
his uncle's generous gift, then he'll simply need to locate the name and
model number of his record player, and aswell, read the tiny imprinted
letter + number on the stylus to ensure an exact replacement.
- I love music, always have, I remember my first state of the art
record player well ....and i can also turn pottery...similar...but like
trying to take a fone call on a tv remote control...not at all possible
-yet( due to motor speed and weight bearing abilities, in this case,
certain adaptations required.)
I hope your friend enjoys his new musical experience, and perhaps I

I'm no expert but old enough to remember the technology!

What speed do the 'platters' (records) play at? This will be written on the label and will be either 78, 45 or 33 1/3 rpm (revolutions per minute).

Have a word with or email a specialist such as Richer Sounds (http://www.richersounds.com/) re the availability of styluses (or is it styli?) for any equipment you're buying. However, a new stylus will not make all that much difference to the crackling. Wiping with an anti static cloth/cleaner could help a bit too.

There are two record players in my family which go back to the '70s and they are both in perfect working order.

If the 'platters' are 78 rpm only then it might be worth considering investing in an old wind-up gramaphone with built in speaker - these are great for picnics, although bear in mind the fragility of the records - 78s in particular are very brittle and prone to breaking, and the more scratched the records become the worse they will crackle and jump grooves. Some of them may even be collectible, so check their titles on the internet. You could be sitting on a fortune!

Congratulations, you have two new friends since two days ago. there are more coming!!!

We must remebe that not all our actions are thoroughly thought before we put it into actions, most of them are "reflexive", they just come spotaneously, and this happened almost ewveryday especially in the morning.
The most important is whne it come to important decision, you give all the best that you can, with its consequences and counter consequences.
Life (show)must go on -as they would say- but living with wide horizon ahead is the most important. Thing comes and go, but love never fades.

You should take your own advice sometimes.
It seems to me that you're forever hating everything there is about yourself. I don't see that lasting forever. I suppose its about reducing the amount of time it takes to reach that state of self acceptance. When the difference between what we are and what we would like to be is so large, it's little wonder we appraise ourselves in a negative light. But what's the answer? Another time perhaps. You can't kid a kidder Mr Lindow pro. Well you can, but not recommended. Many a kidder kidding another kidder has ended up being kidded with concrete shoes, with only a canal to look forward to. Other kidders of course are luckier and I suspect, my friend, that you can include yourself in that category (the lucky kidder krew, as I think of them).
I love your garden by the way. Incidently, I've got a few spare cows if you need any - you know, those big ones, that look a bit like horses. I've got three and I'm getting in a breeding pair next week. I've got first refusal at least. About being a consumer, all of us are consumers, and being consumer, I think is not a bad thing but what makes it bad is to be slave by it, what I mean is to be consumistic. You could be consumer without falling into consumism. Buying things in its proper purpose is one of these.
One must not forget that it is he who must decide for his life not the propagandasl, it is you who decides what product you want to buy and not the product wil decide for you to buy it.

In what way would you say paedophilia is an apathy? I would say it is a problem that needs to be tackled, no? It needs addressing in a constructive way surely. Unfortunately, the media appears unable or unwilling to do so. Perhaps it has other imperatives - to it's share holders, maybe? A consumer of "the media" should consider him/herself to be nothing more than a consumer of the goods the media advertises. We "readers/consumers" are being sold to the advertisers - that is what the media sells - consumers, not papers or programming. We should therefore be cautious/critical of the things we "consume" from the media; that is all I am saying.

Personally, I hate to think of myself as a consumer. Unfortunately, that is all I am to these institutions. I must slavishly buy their products which they can't possibly have associated with anything other than the "accepted" views on any number of issues.

Do most people actually know what the word "peadophile" actually means for heaven's sake? It is used very loosely by most, I suspect.
